On Tape

When I first saw Joseph on tape, I had to check to see if I was watching a game or a highlight reel. He was all over the place, making plays in more ways than the other prospects in his draft class. Jalen Ramsey got all the props this offseason with his size, length and combine measurables.

Measurables are important but there’s nothing that should usurp what a player puts on tape. And when it comes to tape, only linebackers Jaylon Smith and Myles Jack had one that could rival Joseph’s. It seemed like there were five of him on the field as he showed his versatile skill-set.

On one play, he’s in bump-and-run coverage on a slot receiver and breaks up a pass intended for him. On another play, he’s playing deep safety and shows his range on interception of a deep ball. Then on another play as a deep safety, he separates a receiver from the ball by making a big hit.

He doesn’t just pick on little receivers either, he plays in the box and tackles 230-pound running backs. And if that isn’t enough, he also comes off the slot and harasses quarterbacks on blitzes. He’s just as complete a football player if not more so that Jack and Smith.
