The Green Bay Packers Depth Chart looks stronger this year thanks to several key players returning from injury.

Many around the league feel that this version of the Green Bay Packers Depth Chart has enough talent to make a strong Super Bowl run. They made some smart moves during the offseason, but the biggest story line is Jordy Nelson’s return from injury.

Quarterback

Starter: Aaron Rodgers
Backup: Brett Hundley

Aaron Rodgers is still in the prime of his career and one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Brett Hundley looks like a nice developmental quarterback who showed some promise during last year’s preseason.

Running Back

Starter: Eddie Lacy
Backups: James Starks, John Crockett and Aaron Ripkowski

Green Bay is hoping that a slimmed down Eddie Lacy will help re-establish a strong ground game. The depth behind Lacy and Starks is a concern and something that may needed to be addresses if an injury should occur.

Wide Receiver

Starters: Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb
No. 3: Davante Adams
Backups: Jared Abbrederis, Jeff Janis, Ty Montgomery and Trevor Davis

The Packers are in good hands with Nelson and Cobb, but they need more consistency from the younger guys. Davante Adams was a real disappointment last year and could find himself on the roster bubble if he doesn’t make quick improvements.

Tight End

Starter: Richard Rodgers
Backup: Jared Cook and Justin Perillo

Richard Rodgers came on strong late last year and should be a major contributor in the passing game. Jared Cook has a ton of talent but tends to disappear for long stretches– maybe Aaron Rodgers can help him become a more consistent player.

Left Tackle

Starter: David Bakhtiari
Backups: Jason Spriggs and Don Barclay

Bakhtiari is a strong pass protector and should remain the starter despite the addition of Jason Spriggs. Green Bay was smart to add Spriggs in 2nd round of the draft as he offers tremendous upside and provides immediate depth.

Left Guard

Starter: Josh Sitton
Backups: Lane Taylor, Don Barclay and JC Treeter

Josh Sitton remains one of the best guards in the league and very durable.

Center

Starter: Corey Linsley
Backup: JC Tretter

The center position is in great hands with Linsley as the starter and Tretter in the backup role.

Right Guard

Starter: TJ Lang
Backups: Lane Taylor, Don Barclay and JC Treeter

Lang is another steady performer who helps the Packers open running lanes in the middle of the defense.

Right Tackle

Starter: Bryan Bulaga
Backups: Jason Spriggs and Kyle Murphy

Bryan Bulaga is a solid player, but seems to miss a lot of time each year with an injury. Drafting Kyle Murphy and Spriggs will protect the Packers should Bulaga suffer another injury.

3-4 Defensive End

Starters: Datone Jones and Mike Daniels
Bacukps: Dean Lowry, Kenny Clark and Mike Pennel

It’ll be interesting to see how the Packers work their defensive line rotation. Reports say that they plan on using Datone Jones mainly as an edge rusher at the linebacker position. I’m keeping Jones on the defensive line for this depth chart breakdown.

Green Bay just doesn’t have a ton of depth at this position which makes it odd to hear they are moving one of their main rotation pieces to another position.

More from With the First Pick

Nose Tackle

Starter: Letroy Guion
Backup: Kenny Clark

Don’t be surprised if Guion and Clark are both on the field in early-down situations. The Packers lack bulk up front which makes them vulnerable against the run.

3-4 Outside Linebacker

Starters: Clay  Matthews and Julius Peppers
Backups: Nick Perry, Datone Jones and Kyler Fackrell

Clay Matthews is happy to be back on the outside where he can focus on rushing the passer. He and Peppers are a strong duo off the edge. Green Bay also has some depth there with Nick Perry, Kyler Fackrell and Jones all capable of generating some pressure.

Middle Linebacker

Starters: Sam Barrington and Jake Ryan
Backups: Carl Bradford, Blake Martinez and Clay Matthews

For now, it looks like Sam Barrington and Jake Ryan will hold down the starting inside linebacker jobs. Look for there to be an open competition during training camp where either Carl Bradford or Blake Martinez push for playing time.

Cornerback

Starters: Damarious Randall and Sam Shields
Nickelback: Quinten Rollins
Backups: Demetri Goodson and Ladarius Gunter

The Packers are counting on second-year players Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins to build off their rookie year. Both will be expected to play a major role in the secondary.

Safety

Starters: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett
Backups: Micah Hyde and Chris Banjo

The combination of Clinton-Dix and Burnett is strong, but Burnett has missed a lot of time due to injuries. Luckily, Micah Hyde has proven to be a solid backup and should see plenty of action again this season.
