Thomas Rawls to be Ready for Camp
The Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” defense is still intact, finishing No. 2 in the NFL behind only the Denver Broncos in 2015. QB Russell Wilson and his pass-catching weapons are coming into their own too. But RB Marshawn Lynch, the heartbeat of the Seahawks is now retired.
The running game is a big part of why the Seahawks were able to go to back-to-back Super Bowls. So if the Seahawks can fill the big shoes of Lynch in 2016, the team is sure to contend. Candidate No. 1 to fill Lynch’s shoes and carry the running game for the Seahawks is Thomas Rawls.
Rawls actually looked like that guy last season, running for 830 yards, four TDs and 5.6 yars per carry. But in Week 14, he would end up breaking an ankle, ending his season. And of course, the injury has lasted well into the offseason as he has rehabbing but not practicing.
That lead to many, particularly in the media, to wonder if Rawls would be available for training camp. Rawls removed all doubts on Sunday when he told Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com, that he will “most definitely” be ready when the team starts training camp at the end of the month.
Be it that he hasn’t had any offseason work, the Seahawks may opt to start him out slowly before increasing his workload in camp. But nothing is in the way for Rawls to be back in a lead role for the offense by September. So the Seahawks should be good to go, moving on without Lynch in 2016.
