New Orleans Saints receiver corps is full of speedsters like Brandin Cooks and Michael Thomas. So QB Drew Brees isn’t worried about having the kinds of weapons he needs to make big plays. Brees and his Saints now need is a veteran possession receiver after cutting Marques Colston.

And according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, they could have one pretty soon. Rapoport reported Thursday that the Saints are the favorites to sign the free-agent receiver Anquan Boldin as they are now making the strongest push.

Rapoport also added that Boldin loves Saints receivers coach John Morton, whom he spent two seasons with in San Francisco. Boldin is the best free-agent receiver currently on the market. His only two reported visits this offseason, were with the Washington Redskins and the Detroit Lions.

The 35-year-old receiver never had the speed to break away from coverage. And he’s still a big man with great hands so Father Time hasn’t taken away what made him great to begin with. He was always that hard-hat-and-lunch-pale guy that got it done on third down and in the red zone.

If the Saints sign him, Thomas would no longer be the only red-zone threat the team has. And he would make it much easier for the Saints offense stay on the field on third down. This would actually be a good get for the Saints if they pull the trigger.

Stay tuned!
