Quarterback
Starter: Marcus Mariota
Backup: Matt Cassel

Tennessee is expecting to see a big step in Marcus Mariota’s development this year. He showed glimpses of his potential as a rookie, but his progress was derailed by injury. Mariota needs to prove he can stay healthy and effective.

There’s enough talent on this roster that a strong season by Mariota could make the Titans a sleeper playoff team.

Matt Cassel is a reliable backup who will also serve as a mentor for Mariota.

Running Back
Starter: DeMarco Murray
Backup: Derrick Henry
3rd Down: Dexter McCluster
Fullback: Jalston Fowler

The Titans running back situation will be fun to monitor all season long. They traded for DeMarco Murray and appear ready to feed him the ball. However, their decision to draft Derrick Henry in the 2nd round complicates the situation.

Henry will get his share of carries but it’s not yet clear how the workload will be distributed. The presence of Dexter McCluster as the 3rd-down back will lessen the amount of opportunities for Murray and Henry.

Tennesse is one of the few teams left in the league that uses a fullback. Jalston Fowler is a strong lead blocker and an underrated part of the offense. His presence will help the Titans operate a power-running attack which best suits the skills of Murray and Henry.
