Robert Griffin III has a legitimate chance to resurrect his career with the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns appear to be moving ahead with Robert Griffin III as their starting quarterback. Reports from ESPN’s Tony Grossi are that Griffin will receive “4 out of 5” 1st-team reps.

Cleveland desperately needs to solve their long-term quarterback problem and are hoping Griffin can be the answer. He has the physical abilities needed to exceed in the NFL and has had some success.

His mental makeup and ability to stay healthy have been his Achilles heel. Griffin is saying all the right things as he tries to re-establish himself as a potential franchise quarterback.

Cleveland’s decision to sign Griffin is low risk because it didn’t cost them much money nor did it cost them draft picks. However, they passed on an opportunity to draft a quarterback early in the 2016 draft.

It could come back to haunt them if Carson Wentz or Jared Goff develop into elite NFL players. There’s also a good chance that Griffin doesn’t turn things around which would force Cleveland to target a young quarterback in next year’s draft.

Of course, they could always turn to Cody Kessler who they selected in the 3rd round a few months ago. Kessler is a heady quarterback who makes quick decisions and can deliver an accurate football.

However, he lacks elite arm strength and struggles to attack the deep part of the field. This doesn’t really mesh with the rest of the Browns lineup with deep-threats like Josh Gordan and Corey Coleman on the roster.

Griffin’s play will be one of the bigger story lines of the year. He’s a polarizing figure who when at his best is fun to watch. His comments to the media will be another thing watched closely as many gauge whether or not he has matured.
