1. High-profile Rookie Quarterbacks

Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams vs. Dallas Cowboys

Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The talk around the league is that neither Jared Goff nor Carson Wentz is expected to open the season as starters. However, nothing is set in stone and they’ll get their first chance to make a statement this weekend.

Look for the two rookies to see plenty of action as the coaching staffs gauge how ready either player might be to seize the starting job.

Goff is in the better position of the two as he only needs to beat out Case Keenum. The Rams are also in a position where they need to win football games and make a playoff run. Jeff Fisher is going to start the quarterback that gives his team the best chance to win.

Wentz is in a different position as the Eagles appear very willing to let him sit back and learn. He also needs to beat out the likes of Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel. Neither Bradford nor Daniel are elite quarterbacks, but both are serviceable enough to hold down the fort until Wentz is ready to play.

Philadelphia is also going through a transition period where they are trying to undo some of the mistakes made by Chip Kelly. There isn’t as much pressure for the team to win this season which also allows them to ease Wentz into action.

However, the Eagles will likely give him a chance should the season start to unravel.
