When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Carson Wentz, I didn’t understand the move. They gave up so much for him but now, I can see why. So much for my prediction that Jared Goff would be the first QB in this draft to shine.
Franchise quarterbacks are hard to come by to teams will give up just about anything to get one. And I thought the Philadelphia Eagles gave up way too much to draft quarterback Carson Wentz. I thought make for a long rebuild with all the future picks they gave up.
Former head coach Chip Kelly ran a lot of talent out of town so I thought the Eagles needed their picks. Plus Sam Bradford, now with the Minnesota Vikings played well down the stretch last year. I figured he must have some guarantees that he would coach through his contract.
I eve got to cackling (laughing) when Pederson said he’s ready to win now. But the Eagles had much more talent than I and most thought they had especially on defense. They made sure they kept defensive lineman Vinny Curry and Fletcher Cox this offseason.

And Pederson switched defensive scheme back to the 4-3, a defense Curry, Cox and Brandon Graham can ball in. The Eagles front-seven now in the top 10 in sacks and against the run. And as a whole, in spite of the corners, the defense is ranked No. 4.
I thought Wentz would take a while because he freaked under the rush at North Dakota State. In my eyes, there was no way he would have that coached out of him by the start of this season. But already the best thing about him is his poise to take a hit while throwing accurately.
That 4th-down play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 is way beyond his years as a quarterbacks. Since he came from a pro style offense, Wentz knows how to make his checks and change is protections. That’s the most important thing to know as a quarterback.
I knew he was accurate and has a big arm to go with it but the poise shocked me. And he has one of the better pass protecting offensive lines in the NFL protecting him too. Then he has Nelson Agholor, a pro style receiver that Kelly stuck in the Spread as a rookie.
Then they traded for Dorial Green-Beckham, the tall drink of water that has a bright future too. And the Eagles got a first-round pick for Bradford to make up the one they traded for Wentz. Pederson manipulated the offseason to his advantage.
And they’re not rebuilding, they’re winning and have a first-round pick next year!
Props to Pederson!
