Which players should the Washington Redskins target in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft?

This is the next in a series of team only mock drafts. The team up: the Washington Redskins. They have a talented offensive line which has helped to carry them to 4 wins, but who knows what the future holds?
1st: Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

The Scot McCloughan run redskins want to go with power football. They’ve assembled a good offensive line and have found success when they’ve taken the game away from Cousins.

The problem is that their only remotely talented running back, Matt Jones, fumbles every 26 carries. Which is worst in the NFL among qualifying running backs.

They would be all over Fournette if he was available a few spots before they picked. If they can’t get him, Chubb would be almost as good.

He has a low center of gravity and knows how to wait for his blocks. He also seems fully recovered from his major knee injury and should be a mid 1st round selection.

2nd: Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina

Speaking of Kirk Cousins, between his and Osweiler’s play and the play of Prescott and Wentz it looks unlikely that the redskkns are going to franchise tag him or resign him.

Why pay 20+ million for a quarterback when Dallas and Philly have shown the Redskins that they could find a starter in the draft.

And that’s probably not a bad thing that they would move on. Cousins is extremely inconsistent and isn’t showing the development that they were hoping for when they franchise tagged him.

Trubinsky doesn’t have a cannon arm but he makes great decisions and has good mobility. And watching Carson Wentz use those tools to great success makes him a potential starter for a team like the Redskins that wants to try on their running game.

3rd: Josh Harvey-Clemons, DB Louisville

He’s a 6-4 230 lbs safety/linebacker hybrid entering the league at a time when they are looking more and more for these eraser type players that can move around a formation.

The redskins defense probably is set for major changes from 2016 so sheer talent is required. Harvey-Clemons would be an interesting piece to use as inside backer with Sua Cravens. Or at strong safety in a 4-3 defense.

There’s been rumors for 2 offseasons that Scot McCloughan was interested in trading for Kam Chancellor. This isn’t to say that Harvey-Clemons has that level of talent, but he has a very similar built and style of play.

4th: Chris Wormley, DL Michigan

Speaking of versatility, Wormley is a prospect without a clear position in the NFL. He does well at end thanks to his speed and quickness. But he doesn’t have developed enough skills to be consistent.

He is big and strong enough to play inside as well, but hasn’t learned how to properly use leverage to get under a blocker.

He’s a project for sure. But the Redskins just need sheer talent with all the holes that they have in the front 7.
