2017 NFL Draft: LSU Tre’Davious White Scouting Report

LSU’s Tre’Davious White is an experienced and highly effective cornerback prospect eligible for the 2017 NFL Draft.

Tre’Davious White is a well-built defensive back who features good size, long arms and solid bulk. He has the size to matchup against bigger targets and fight through contact. White would be a solid option to cover pass-catching tight ends in the NFL.

This is a balanced athlete who commits to keeping his pads down and a wide base. His balance allows him to change direction and keep in-phase with his target. White is a heady player who knows how to put himself in proper position.

His use of angles and positioning help him matchup well with any type of receiver. LSU often asked White to work on an island in tight man coverage.

An area where White has made significant improvements is his ball skills. He does a good job tracking the ball and securing interceptions. The ability to generate turnovers is something every defensive coordinator covets.

White’s overall aggressiveness and toughness make him an all-around contributor. He isn’t afraid to support the run or aggressively attack a wide receiver screen. His toughness and tackling ability also make him a prime candidate to help on special teams.

The biggest concerns with White are his top-end speed and hand usage. White doesn’t show elite speed or the ability to recover. It’s tough to really gauge his speed because he’s rarely out of position. His instincts keep him in proper position the majority of the time.

White tends to use his hands too much in coverage. He needs to learn to run with the receiver and avoid contact. This issue may lead to a high number of pass interference or holding calls early in White’s NFL career.
