What is There For Tony Romo and Jerry Jones to Work Out?
After Dak Prescott crashed the party in the quarterback room, the Dallas Cowboys have to do something with Tony Romo.
Dak Prescott made himself a fixture in the Dallas Cowboys’ lineup after getting drafted in the fourth round in 2016. Owner Jerry Jones waited for Prescott to mess up to get his boy, Tony Romo, back in there. But that mess-up never happened so there’s a new sheriff in town.
So now, the focus in Dallas and around the NFL is about what the Cowboys will do with Romo. He is far from ready to hang ’em up and wants to play somewhere if not Dallas. Prescott is young, playing well and doesn’t need Romo’s shadow hovering over him.
So what’s next for Romo?
KRLD-FM recently asked about Romo’s future and Stephen Jones answered, “You got the wrong guy on the phone right now.”
Of course, he’s talking about his father, Jerry Jones, being the one that makes that call. And he seems to believe his dad and Romo can come up with something that suits everyone’s interests.
Stephen Jones told the Dallas Morning News, “I’m sure as we move forward, obviously, there’s two really important people in this mix. First and foremost will be Jerry and then, of course, Tony. I read where Jason said his wish is that Tony, whatever happens here, is happy.

I’m sure most people feel that way. At the same time, we all know we’re in a business. It’s something here that will be, obviously, handled with, if you will, kid gloves. And something that we’ll work through and when we’re ready to have any comments about it, I know Jerry and Tony will be the ones to do that.”
So what happens here?
Romo wants a trade to the Denver Broncos, who would instantly become contenders. But the Broncos want no part of that trade because Romo has a cap hit of more than $24 million in 2017. Romo could also make the Chicago Bears a contender.
But I don’t think anyone will trade for an old, injured, expensive quarterback. So the only thing there is for Romo and Jones to work out is a release between now and the start of the new league year. That’s less than two months away so stay tuned.
