USC’s Damien Mama is a massive offensive guard prospect who also possesses top-end athleticism based on his size.

The first thing that stands out when watching Damien Mama is his size and thickness. He’s a powerfully built individual who uses his size to move defenders off the line of scrimmage. That size also helps him absorb contact and hold at the point of attack.

He features the raw power to generate a push off the line of scrimmage. It also helps that he’s committed to gaining inside hands and maintaining leverage.

Mama’s size is impressive but it’s his quickness that separates him from the other guard prospects. There just aren’t many people who posses his combination of size and athleticism.

He uses his quickness to make blocks all over the field including in the 2nd level, on the edge and even reaching the safety from time to time. Mama is also a fluid athlete who is capable of mirroring the pass rush.

His commitment to keeping his pads down and a balanced base helps him easily change direction. He’s ability to protect the passer is also helped by the fact he keeps his head on a swivel and is aware of the approaching rushers.

Mama is a high intensity player who is extremely active and works to the whistle. This effort has resulted in more than a few blocks down field that sprung the running back for a big gain.

The one area where he could improve is his snap awareness. He is often one of the last players out of his stance which puts him a step behind his opponent. This is something the coaches at the next level will focus on.

Overall, Mama is a well-rounded guard prospect who will fit any system. He has the experience, talent and football IQ needed to be an immediate starter.
