Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden believes the team wants him. Of course, he wants to believe that but is that really the case.

RB Darren McFadden had seven frustrating, up-and-down seasons with the Oakland Raiders. Then in 2015, he went to the Dallas Cowboys and rushed for over 1,000 yards. But in 2016, the Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott and brought in Alfred Morris in free agency.

Elliot then proceeded to lead the NFL in rushing with Morris proving to be a capable backup. Meanwhile, McFadden missed most of the 2016 season with an elbow injury. The one where he was trying to save his cellphone from dropping.

Yet as he heads into free agency March 9 somehow believing the Cowboys want him back.

He told SiriusXM NFL Radio per The Dallas Morning News. “I kinda get the feel that they wouldn’t mind keeping me. I was raised in Arkansas. I live here now. Set up my home here in Texas. I’m a Cowboys fan regardless of whether they decide to bring me back or not.”

Elliott is a three-down workhorse back and Morris is doing a good job of backing him up. Entering his 10th season, McFadden also believes having just 24 rushing attempts in 2016 makes him fresh. That’s another part where he seems to believe what he wants.

He said, “For me, I still feel fresh,” he said. “Like you said I didn’t get a lot of wear and tear on my body from the season. I only played in the last three regular season games and the playoff game. I feel like I have a lot that I can offer any team as far as being out there and a guy that can carry the load.

“I don’t feel like I’ve lost a step at all. I feel like that any team that wants to take a shot at me I don’t think it’d be a bad deal for ’em.”

Anyone with two eyes can see that McFadden is still fast but injuries and surgeries count as wear and tear. Each one makes it more likely that the next one is coming. He’s only played in all 16 games twice in his time in the NFL so he can’t say that his body isn’t beat up.

Well, I guess he can because he clearly believes what he wants.
