The Chicago Bears are in the middle of a rebuild and could use a dynamic playmaker like Mike Williams at wide receiver.

Alshon Jeffery’s contract situation has the potential to create a major hold in the Chicago Bears receiving corps. He’s the only established pass catcher on the roster and an important part of the team’s passing attack.

Chicago is heavily considering allowing Jeffery to hit the open market based on his contract demands, durability issues and recent suspension for PEDs. Losing Jeffery likely means the Bears will look to the draft to add a young wide receiver.

More from With the First Pick

Clemson’s Mike Williams is my top rated wide receiver in the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s a terrific athlete who features elite size for the position. Williams is a fluid athlete capable of quickly getting in and out of his breaks.

However, it’s his size and leaping ability that really stands out. He is the type of receiver capable of winning in contested situations and making plays down the field.

Williams would immediately become the Bears most explosive receiver and likely go-to option as a rookie. He would be join Kevin White and Cameron Meredith to make up a highly inexperienced group.

The big question is whether or not Williams is worth the No. 3 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. There’s enough evidence to say Williams has the potential to produce enough to warrant such a high selection.

It becomes less of a stretch when you look at the rest of the talent available in this draft class. Chicago would likely be looking at prospects like Alabama’s Jonathan Allen, LSU’s Jamal Adams or one of the quarterbacks with the No. 3 pick.

Allen is a potential difference maker along the defensive line. However, Chicago has a solid front-7 including several  young defensive linemen. They could justify passing on Allen to upgrade the wide receiver position.

Adams is a different story as Chicago has a major need at the safety position. He would be slotted in as an immediate starter and become the most talented player in Chicago’s secondary.

The quarterback prospects are all extremely raw and major unknowns. It seems like every quarterback-needy team is hesitant to really commit to one of the prospects available in this drasft class.

This all opens up the possibility for the Chicago Bears to use the No. 3 overall pick on Mike Williams.
