2017 NFL Draft: Oregon State Sean Harlow Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
Oregon State’s Sean Harlow is a prospect who should be seen as a project who could potentially develop into an impact player along the offensive line.
Sean Harlow spent his time at Oregon State lining up at left tackle where he did an admirable job. However, he lacks the movement skills and overall athleticism to stick at that position in the NFL. The NFL pass rushers will easily expose his weaknesses on a consistent basis.
Harlow is looking at a position switch and moving inside to guard. He has the thick frame, raw power and demeanor to fit along the interior. Harlow shows good strength with the ability to deliver a strong initial punch.
He features long arms that allow him to gain inside hand placement. However, he is inconsistent with his hand usage and will look to shoulder block from time to time. Harlow also needs to work on sustaining his blocks and velcroing to the defender.

His height could be a bit of an issue on the inside as it will make it harder for him to maintain leverage. It also doesn’t help that Harlow tends to play too high.
This is why Harlow should be considered a project and someone who’ll need time to develop. He needs to work on his overall technique but most importantly his hand usage and pad level.
His pass protection skills should translate well as he moves inside. Harlow doesn’t have the foot speed to protect the edge, but at guard he won’t have to work in space. He still needs to focus on keeping his pads down but his pass protection should be a strength of his game.
