The report about Tony Romo going to the San Francisco 49ers is a false one. There will be no such three-way trade between them the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.

I believe in the quote, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” but not always. Sometimes, there’s just more smoke, which was the case Friday. Ian Rapoport reported a potential trade between the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys on NFL Network.

In this trade, QB Tony Romo is supposed to go to the Washington Redskins. In return, they would get a package of picks from the 49ers, who would get Kirk Cousins from the Redskins. In the last article I wrote about it, I said it only really made sense for the Cowboys.

It doesn’t make sense for the Redskins unless they believe Romo has another for years left but they know better. So they will likely ride it out with Cousins until he likely leaves next year. Is say likely because another franchise tag is too expensive and Cousins wants the 49ers.

More from With the First Pick

Rapoport said the Cowboys would receive a “draft haul” from the 49ers in the deal. A “draft haul” usually means there are some high picks involved so that would be a robbery. The 49ers’ new regime doesn’t have to do that one when they can wait a year to get him free.

The Cowboys getting a bunch of picks for an injured 36-year-old QB is nonsense. I was ready to cry “conspiracy” but my faith in the NFL has been restored. According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram refuted this, backed up by Cowboys owner Jones.

He said:

"He [Jones] wouldn’t trade Romo to a division rival, and there is an unspoken understanding that Romo wouldn’t sign with the Redskins as a free agent if he was released."

There’s not reason to worry about that because Romo want to contend and wouldn’t with the Redskins. So with trade dead, the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans are most likely to get him.
