UCLA’s Fabian Moreau is a big-bodied cornerback prospect who also has the speed to turn and run with quicker receivers.

Fabian Moreau is in the thick of what is a very deep cornerback class. He’s a bigger cornerback who uses his size to gain proper position. Moreau uses his positioning to make a play on the ball and generate turnovers.

His size also helps him support the run and work through blocks. Moreau is a willing run supporter and doesn’t hesitate to break up a wide receiver screen.

He is also a heady defender who can read developing routes and jump the pass. His quickness and short area burst allows him to quickly close on the ball. Moreau’s hands and overall ball skills are something every defensive coordinator covets.

This is a naturally talented athlete who still needs to refine his overall technique. Moreau needs to be more fluid with his footwork and refrain from playing flatfooted. He also needs to be more physical at the line of scrimmage.

Too often, he allows the receiver to get a clean release off the line of scrimmage. There are times where the receiver actually initiates contact and knocks Moreau off balance. It’s the job of the defender to keep the receiver from easily getting into his route.

Moreau tends to use hands too much past the 5-yard barrier. This is going to lead to a lot of holding and pass interference calls at the next level.

Overall, Moreau has the talent needed to develop into a No. 1 corner in the NFL. His size, ball skills and quickness are all things evaluators look for in a cornerback prospect. He may slip a little on draft day based on the depth at the position and the fact he’s still raw.
