2017 NFL Draft: Louisville DeAngelo Brown Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
Louisville’s DeAngelo Brown is short but stout defensive line prospect who has a chance to find a role in the NFL.
DeAngelo Brown doesn’t jump off the screen as a major impact player. However, he’s the guy who does the dirty work along the defensive line. Brown’s best skill is his ability to hold at the point of attack and occupy blockers.
His shorter build provides him with natural leverage and his thickness helps him absorb contact. It’s tough for blocker to get underneath his pads and drive him off the line of scrimmage.

However, Brown doesn’t have great arm length which makes it tough for him to gain inside hands. He also doesn’t show enough raw strength to quickly disengage from blocks. His ability to gain inside hands relies on snap timing.
He does have a powerful initial punch which helps create space, but again this depends on him quickly getting off the ball.
Brown’s contributions as a run stuffer are mainly limited to absorbing blockers. He lacks the quickness and overall athleticism needed to make plays away from his frame. Brown also isn’t the type of player who’ll work his way down the line of scrimmage.
His game also doesn’t include much of a pass rush. The only way he can generate some pressure is thanks to his lateral wiggle. His lack of arm length hurts his ability to push the pocket and his lack of explosiveness keeps him from penetrating.
Overall, Brown is looking at filling a rotational role as someone who comes into the game to offer some run support. He is unlikely to develop into a difference maker, but there’s plenty of room for a player like Brown in the NFL.
