New Orleans Saints fans know they need to upgrade their secondary to improve. They just need to be patient because it looks like Malcolm Butler is coming at some point.

In a way, the New England Patriots declared war on star CB Malcolm Butler this offseason. They signed CB Stephon Gilmore in free agency while slapping a first-round tender on him. As of now, Butler won’t even sign the tender so that relationship is fractured.

Butler has since went to New Orleans for a visit to see where he may fit in there. The Saints already have a business relationship with the Patriots from a trade earlier this offseason. The Saints sent WR Brandin Cooks to the Patriots for their No.32 overall.

Looking at the two teams before the trade, Cooks for Butler straight up would have been a good swap. But the Patriots can’t make a deal until Butler signs his tender. Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune was on NFL Network saying the deal is definitely still in play.

He even went as far as saying the he expects a deal to get done at some point. The deal will take a while as Butler has until April 21 to sign his tender. I believe Butler is waiting for a sign-and-trade deal so he isn’t stuck playing for Just under $4 million in 2017.

Holder mentioned the Saints wanting a sign-and-trade deal so they don’t have to give up their No. 11 overall. Perhaps will the Saints give the Patriots their No. 32 overall back. That late first-round pick could very well have  have been collateral for the Saints all along.

Either way, be patient Saints fans, you’re going to end up with Butler in the end!
