42. With the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, the San Francisco 49ers take former Stanford DE Solomon Thomas. This is a good year to have your offense set for the season and draft defensive players early. So the 49ers did what they could in free agency to make their offense feasible.

Now, they can draft the next physical freak edge rusher down from Garrett in Solomon, who’s 6’3″, 275-pounds. Thomas is a tick slower than Garrett, running a 4.69 40 at the combine. But he ran through the three-cone drill in an amazing-for-his-size in 6.95 seconds.

The three-cone drill time shows that Garrett has a quick first step and can turn the corner on you. He also has a lot of power and his versatility enables him to move inside at times. The San Francisco 49ers didn’t get after the QB very well in 2016 so the can use him.

If fellow DE Aaron Lynch goes back to his 2015 form, the 49ers just may have something. DTs DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead will be back with ILB Navorro Bowman to form a solid front seven. The 49ers would be back on the defensive side of the ball before many expect them to be.
. DE. Stanford. Solomon Thomas. 2. player
