NFL Mock Draft 4.0 Final by Kyle Davis
By Kyle Davis
My final 2017 NFL Mock Draft!
It’s Draft Day. This will be my final mock of the 2017 NFL Draft, and after much research and anticipation, I for one am excited for tonight. A few disclaimers for the below. First and foremost, this is a predictive mock draft. This is who I think has a good potential of being drafted by each team’s Front Office. It is not who I believe is the best player for your team. Secondly, if I have mocked them, I guarantee that there is at least a CHANCE, that the player listed could go to your team. Please notice that before you go to my comments saying “there is no way this player goes to my team!” because there is a way, and its possible, hence why I mocked it. To the picks!

Mock Draft Round 1
1. Cleveland Browns – Myles Garrett – DE – Texas A&M
“With the first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select, Myles Garrett, defensive end, Texas A&M.” “But wait, there is talk about Trubisky going No. 1!” Yea, sure, maybe. I don’t buy it. It’s a hot take. Here’s another one. This was fabricated by analysts to hype the No. 1 pick and have something for people to tune into tonight. Just an idea…anyway, the Browns should go after Garrett. He’s a generational talent and freak of nature. Plus, Trubisky may be able to be picked at 12, or they could trade up to get him. You don’t get that shot with Garrett. Don’t screw this up Cleveland!
2. San Francisco 49ers – Leonard Fournette – RB – LSU
So many options here, but I’m going with Leonard Fournette. Reports out of San Francisco are pointing to this pick. First, I’m seeing that the new staff doesn’t think Hyde is their ball carrier of the future. Secondly, Fournette is a potential home run running back and the 49ers can’t walk away from having this man running the ball for them for the next 10 years. With SF beat writers saying “look no further than Fournette at 2” I’m confident in it.
3. Chicago Bears – Jamal Adams – S – LSU
I’m going back to back tigers, with Jamal Adams to the Bears. Adams didn’t have a great combine, but all the questions from that week are gone after his pro day. He electrified scouts and has definitely pushed himself back into the conversation for this pick. He’s a perfect fit to step in immediately in Chicago and be one of the best safeties in the league.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars – O.J. Howard – TE – Alabama
Staying in the SEC, the Jaguars make a surprise pick and take O.J. Howard. We know they want a tight end at some point in this draft. Why not take the consensus No.1? Yea, it’s a little early. But who else would they pick? Their defense is loaded with young talent, and they just signed some proven vets to develop them. They need offensive line help, and maybe a QB, but do they take either of those at No. 4? I don’t think so. With Fournette gone, I think this is the pick.
5. Tennessee Titans (From LA Rams) – Marshon Lattimore – CB – Ohio State
Reports from Nashville indicate the Titans really want another lock down corner. This is there shot to take him. This could be a number of different picks honestly, but it will be hard to not pick a guy that happens to be one of their top needs. This one is a perfect fit. Next.
6. New York Jets – Malik Hooker – S – Ohio State
The Jets have holes all over their roster. With the departure of a handful of big-name (and big-contract) free agents, you would expect the Jets to be signing a multitude of players to improve the team. Well, they haven’t. The first step I have for them is selecting the best cover safety in the draft. Teams threw the ball all over the field last season, hopefully Hooker can come in and make quarterbacks think twice about that.
*Potential Trade – Cleveland Browns*
7. Los Angeles Chargers – Mike Williams – WR – Clemson
I don’t know what will happen with this pick to be honest. It could be one of the top 2 defensive lineman, could be someone else…but I’m going Mike Williams. They most recently brought him in for a workout and all indications were that it went very well. He would immediately give them a great threat in the passing game…and young talent for whoever throws the the ball after this season….spoiler alert.
8. Carolina Panthers –Christian McCaffrey – RB – Stanford
My pick to the Panthers is the versatile Running Back from Stanford in McCaffrey. The Panthers are looking to bolster their offense and give Cam more options. Adding this piece helps the run game evolve, but also gives Cam another passing threat as well. They currently don’t have a type of player like McCaffrey on the roster. He would give opposing defensive lines and linebackers more to think about in the backfield than tackling Cam. Not to mention, he can step in as the kickoff and punt returner Day 1 with Ted Ginn Jr. gone.
9. Cincinnati Bengals – Solomon Thomas – DE – Stanford
The Bengals need defensive line help. It’s one of their top needs. What a gift it is then to have two of the top rated players in the draft fall to them at 9. I think they’ll go with Thomas because he seems to have less risk involved compared to Allen. Thomas is versatile and can give them a burst of youth and explosion to the pass rush.
10. Buffalo Bills – Jonathan Allen – DE – Alabama
The Bills have a few options. First they are looking to trade down. But if they don’t, I could see Trubisky or Allen. I’m gonna go with Allen because Trubisky could be smoke, seeing as they want to trade down, a threat to taking Trubisky would be good for their cause. But pairing Allen with 2016’s 1st Round Pick Shaq Lawson would be a great tandem for this franchise moving forward.
*Potential Trades: Denver Broncos or Indianapolis Colts*
11. New Orleans Saints – Derek Barnett – DE – Tennessee
The Saints now have two picks in the 1st round, and their biggest needs are arguably Defensive End and Cornerback. It just so happens that those are the two deepest positions in this draft, so they can afford to hold off on corner for now. They need a pass rusher to get after some of the best QB’s in the NFL that play in their division. Derek Barnett gives them an added dimension of speed combined with relentless effort.
12. Cleveland Browns (from Philadelphia) – Mitchell Trubisky – QB – UNC
Here is a better place to take Trubisky. I don’t know if any of the other teams before this will actually pull the trigger, and the Browns would be smart to wait it out. They get their “QB of the future” and they didn’t lose any picks in the process. Good job Cleveland!
13. Arizona Cardinals – Pat Mahomes – QB – Texas Tech
All reports out of Arizona are that this front office loves Mahomes. However, they don’t really need a QB this season. Well, Mahomes needs grooming. Carson Palmer has been in the league for 38 years it seems, and he can show Pat the ropes before moving on.
14. Philadelphia Eagles (from Minnesota) – Dalvin Cook – RB – Florida State
This pick was Gareon Conley. But with swirling allegations, his stock is dropping. Instead of going cornerback here, I now think the Eagles pull the trigger on a running back they like a lot. They even called his grandmother to evaluate his character! They add another young talent to their offense, which could be scary good in the next couple of years.
15. Indianapolis Colts – Taco Charlton – DE – Michigan
The Colts want to rush the QB. They haven’t done it well, they’ve been better at getting their QB rushed. Getting a guy like Taco helps their pass rush tremendously as his ceiling is very high. Helping the pass rush will help their defense as a whole, including any other players they draft for their secondary later on in this draft.
16. Baltimore Ravens – Charles Harris – DE – Missouri
I’ve been seeing that the Ravens want to do three things in this draft. Get a pass rusher, bulk up their offensive line, and get a WR. First of which may be defensive end and Charles Harris is rising boards fast. He would be a great get for this team as he is fast and physical. Cam Robinson is in play as well, but think they wait to add to their OL.
17. Washington Redskins – Haason Reddick – LB – Temple
The Redskins need to upgrade their defense, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. It is to be determined if they will need a QB or not. I have them taking the athletic, versatile player out of Temple. Reddick may be the player that has improved his stock the most, and the Redskins take him at 17 for that reason. Not to mention that reports are that they love him. It helps.
18. Tennessee Titans – John Ross – WR – Washington
The Titans were heavy in pursuit of Brandin Cooks before he was traded to the Patriots. Since that didn’t work out, they get the next best thing in John Ross. He’s a speed nightmare for opposing defenses and gives Mariota and the offense an option over the top, or they can feature him in their spread offense. Great fit here.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Corey Davis – WR – Western Michigan
First and foremost, I think the Bucs try to trade down from this pick and get more picks later on in this deep draft. They want to target a few positions, but everyone I think they want to pick will be gone at this point. If they stay, I see Corey Davis, just adding more weapons for Jameis Winston and the future of the team.
*Potential Trade Down*
20. Denver Broncos – Garett Bolles – OT – Utah
The Broncos made two big additions to their offensive line in the additions of Menelik Watson at RT and Ronald Leary at Guard. The bad news is they still need another tackle. Garrett Bolles looks to be everything they could want. He impressed at the combine, and his character questions are all but gone. He could protect…. whoever plays Quarterback for the Broncos very well.
21. Detroit Lions – David Njoku – TE – Miami
The Lions seem to be very interested in the prospect Njoku out of Miami. Ebron’s contract is almost up and he hasn’t lived up to the expectations. This gives them another 5 years of elite TE talent, and get to save cap room at the same time. It also helps that Njoku’s former coach is the Tight End coach in Detroit!
22. Miami Dolphins – Forrest Lamp – OG/OT – Western Kentucky
I’ve seen multiple people say that the Dolphins are all in on Forrest Lamp. He could definitely be here and they can make that match happen. That gives the Dolphins back to back 1st round offensive lineman and the makings to a top line in the league.
23. New York Giants – Ryan Ramczyk – OT – Wisconsin
The Tackles start to come off the board. The Giants want to improve their blindside blocker, and Ramczyk is considered the best pass blocking tackle in this class. He could come in and start at either tackle position in his rookie year, and Eli will probably be happy with not having to get hit as much.
24. Oakland Raiders – Jarrad Davis – LB – Florida
The Raiders want to go after the defense hard in this draft. Getting a big, physical, but athletic linebacker in Davis would be huge for them. He could be the leader in the second level that they have been searching for.
25. Houston Texans – Cam Robinson – OT – Alabama
The Texans wanted a quarterback, but I think they really wanted Mahomes. With him gone, I think they instead move to plan B and take a tackle that could be really really good. Robinson can step in to help out this offensive line, and they can try and get a QB in round 2, whether that means moving up or not.
26. Seattle Seahawks – Marlon Humphrey – CB – Alabama
The Seahawks definitely need line help, but I think they need to take a look at cornerback first. There are some stories coming about Richard Sherman, they’re a little depleted, and adding Humphrey will help their team now and later. Not to mention that he’s a great talent that has fallen a bit to this point.
27. Kansas City Chiefs – Deshaun Watson – QB – Clemson
The Chiefs have a few other needs, but they want to prep for the future as well. Watson fits what they want to do. He’s run a similar type of offense, and very well I might add. He can learn how to translate his intangibles to the NFL level through Alex Smith, and the Chiefs can go after other talent with their remaining picks.
28. Dallas Cowboys – Kevin King – CB – Washington
I’ve seen this multiple times. The Cowboys really like King, like a lot. As we’ve seen they like long, athletic corners, just some didn’t work out the way they hoped. There is no doubt that the Cowboys need help in their secondary, and King can help eliminate some of that need.
29. Green Bay Packers – T.J. Watt – DE – Wisconsin
The Packers need defensive help all over the field. Mostly in the secondary. But… if you know football, one of the best ways to help the secondary is to make things rough on the opposing Quarterback. That’s what Watt does. He gives them the second coming of Clay Matthews, and a sack machine.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers – Jabrill Peppers – S – Michigan
The Steelers like Peppers, they like the versatility and plan to use it if they take him. There are a lot of options for them here, but I think they take a chance on the risky prospect. He can be a similar player to Polamalu was for years.
31. Atlanta Falcons – Jordan Willis – DE – Kansas State
The Falcons are all about speed. All over their defense. Well it works out nicely that they need a DE, and Willis is a skilled one with speed. Word on the street is that the Falcons brought in Willis and Charles Harris for a paired workout against each other. Well, they get to take one of them here.
32. New Orleans Saints (From NE) – Reuben Foster – LB – Alabama
I don’t know that Foster will last this long. He could go top 10 still. But I hear that he will fall. If he falls this far, this could be an easy pick for the Saints. They like Foster a lot, and could use a linebacker that draws comparisons to division rival Luke Kuechly.
