It’s always good to make the perfect pick for your franchise. And it’s even better to make it two rounds in row like the Oakland Raiders did with Obi Melifonwu.

Again, best player on the board plus position of need plus scheme fit equals perfect pick. I just did an article about former Ohio State CB Gareon Conley was the perfect pick by that standard. If you’re able to do that in the first round, you’ve done right by your franchise.

If you can do that for two rounds in a row you’ve really done a service to your team. So regardless of how his next five picks go, GM Reggie McKenzie has done well with tow in a row for his Oakland Raiders. In Round 2, he snatched up former UConn S Obi Melifonwu.

I remember trying to mock him to Raiders in the mid-rounds early on because no one knew him. Then he went to the Senior Bowl and the combine and became the star of the offseason. I then thought he would go in the first round so I mocked him to the Raiders there.

Then I changed it and once the Raiders picked Conley in Round 1 of the real draft. I thought that was it. I didn’t think Melifonwu would still be there eight picks later much less a whole 32 picks later.  But he was and the Raiders made their second perfect pick in a row.
