UCLA’s Josh Rosen is one of several high profile quarterback prospects eligible for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Josh Rosen is a steady performer who features all the qualities evaluators look for in an NFL quarterback. He has good size, a strong throwing arm and enough mobility. UCLA operates a pro-style system that provides Rosen with opportunities to work from under center, go through his progressions and utilize play action.

Rosen has an easy over the top deliver that allows him to release the ball in a hurry. He shows the ability to go through his progressions to locate the open target. Rosen ties his eyes, shoulders and feet while going through hi progressions.

He’s comfortable in the pocket featuring good balance and awareness. His ability to feel the pressure and climb up the pocket is a good trait.

It’s obvious that Rosen is still developing and needs more seasoning. He’s not completely comfortable dealing with pressure and will drop his eyes with dealing with a rush up the middle. Rosen also needs to work on his ball security because he has had a few situations where he was stripped.

His timing and anticipation is another area that needs improvement. He tends to hold the ball too long and deliver it a second late. This impacts his ball placement and makes for tighter throwing lanes. He needs to do less patting of the football and just let it rip.

Rosen’s overall accuracy is a work in progress at this point in his development. He delivers a lot of balls that force his receivers to adjust. This hurts their ability to gain yards after the catch. His deep ball is also something that can be a little erratic.

Despite some flaws, Rosen is a high-level quarterback prospect who will be in the 1st round mix. All his issues are fixable with more experience and coaching.

However, I just don’t see that “it” factor when watching Rosen play. He’s more of a steady move the chains quarterback rather than a big-play guy. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but could push others ahead of him on draft boards.
