Wyoming’s Josh Allen is an electrifying talent who has a great chance to be one of the first few picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Josh Allen has excellent size for the position including height and solid bulk. He’s a terrific athlete who can escape the pocket and make plays with his legs. However, it’s his explosive arm talent that makes him such an intriguing prospect.

Allen has a live arm that will allow him to make all the throws NFL teams want to see. The ball explodes off his hands and arrives to his target with excellent zip. At Wyoming, Allen’s arm strength is routinely on display as he fits the ball into tight throwing lanes.

His pass catchers really don’t create a lot of separation so Allen is often forced to take risks and throw into coverage. He is not afraid to take a risk and can be somewhat of a gunslinger at times.

Allen absolutely trusts his arm talent and will take some risks. He routinely throws across his body while rolling out of the pocket. Allen gets away with this a lot in college, but at the next level this will result in turnovers.

Overall protection of the football is an area where Allen needs improvement. There are times where he telegraphs his throws which allows the defensive back to jump the route. Some of this comes from the fact that his team relies on him to make plays. He is the guy expected to lead his team to wins.

Allen’s draft stock will get a boost from the fact that he has experience working from under center. He also utilizes play action, goes through his progressions and works both sides of the field.

His athleticism allows him to make plays with his legs, but Allen does a good job keeping his eyes down field. He routinely produces big plays as the defense reacts to him fleeing the pocket. However, I’d like to see him climb the pocket in the face of pressure rather than run around it.

Allen needs to learn when to put more loft on his throws. He tends to use his fastball on a large majority of his throws. This cause some inconsistency in his deep ball and screen passes.

Overall, this is an extremely impressive prospect wow factor. He’s not only a physically gifted player, but also shows toughness and feel for the position. Allen is in the running to be the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

There just aren’t many kids out there with his arm talent and athleticism.
