Depth Chart Impact

The Browns had a lot of holes to fill in this years draft. No bigger hole than the need for help in the secondary. With most of the touchdowns scored on their defense, being on plays over twenty five yards. The Browns helped their deficiency by drafting Jabrill Peppers with the twenty fifth pick. Peppers is a super athlete with a high upside.

Peppers can contribute both in the secondary, as well as special teams, making him a four down player. He will have to refine his ball skills with the move from linebacker to strong safety. However Peppers has the speed and the football IQ to make the shift. Pairing Peppers with a defensive backfield of Joe Haden and Jamir Taylor should give the Browns the back end help they need moving forward.

More from With the First Pick

Cleveland got a lot better at Edge Rusher, a position many thought they could pass on this draft. Last season second round pick Emmanuel Ogbah had 5.5 sacks, but had a ton of quarterback hurries. Many feel he will be a nine to eleven sack player throughout his career. Carl Nassib flashed elite talent, however was plagued by a broken hand. Nassib showed signs however he could be special.

Adding Myles Garrett to an already solid group may seem like a bad idea, but in today’s NFL, teams need at least three solid pass rushers. Garrett brings a set of tools that most players dream about. He has size, length and the ability to convert speed to power.

Most scouts say his ceiling is the hall of fame and his floor is somewhere close to the Pro-Bowl. Putting Garrett opposite Ogbah and bringing in Nassib for sub packages, will allow the Browns to wreak havoc in the AFC North.

The Browns quarterback depth is the most intriguing in the draft. Many analyst said before the draft that is the Browns didn’t come away with a quarterback at least with the 12th pick they would be set back another four years. With Cody Kessler and Brock Osweiler set to duke it out in training camp, the Browns are desperate to push depth at the position.

With the 52nd pick the Browns did just that. Instead of trading up for Trubisky or reaching on Watson, a quarterback they didnt like, they waited. That wait landed them what may turn out to be the best quarterback in the draft. He will need some time, but Kizer has a huge upside and is extremely smart.
