Did the Minnesota Vikings make a mistake by signing Michael Floyd?
By Jon Dove
This past week the Minnesota Vikings added another weapon to their receiving corps by signing Michael Floyd.
Things look a lot different for Michael Floyd than they did at this point last year. This past summer he was getting ready for another season with the Arizona Cardinals and looking to finally establish himself as the team’s No. 1 target.
However, his poor decisions making surrounding alcohol again reared its ugly head. The Cardinals cut the former 1st round pick after a DUI arrest. This marked the end to what looked like a promising career in Arizona.

Floyd caught on with the New England Patriots for the end of the season, but failed to make an impact. Things were slow during the early part of the free agent process thanks to his checkered past and compensatory draft pick considerations.
However, the Minnesota Vikings jumped on Floyd as soon as the compensatory draft pick time frame expired.
Minnesota made this move hoping Floyd can get his career back on track. It’s a low risk-high reward type signing. However, it could have a long-term impact on the development of former 1st round pick Laquon Treadwell.
Last year was a disaster for Treadwell who saw minimal playing time and only made one catch on three targets. He is going to need to earn his playing time, but that has become trickier with the addition of Floyd.
Both Floyd and Treadwell are similar players who win with size. They will be competing for the No. 3 receiver spot along side Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Floyd should have the inside track based on his experience in the league.
After last year’s no show, Treadwell is running out of time to prove to the Vikings that he could be a major contributor.
