LSU’s Arden Key is a long and athletic edge rusher who has the potential to be an early selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Arden Key is one of the top pass-rushing prospects on the 2018 NFL Draft radar. He features excellent length combining long legs and arms. This length helps him keep blockers off his frame while gaining inside hands.

Key has an explosive first step that he pairs with good snap awareness. This allows him to gain the edge and pressure the quarterback. Despite his long frame, Key is able to dip his shoulder and flatten out around the edge.

He also flashes solid change of direction ability and an inside counter. However, his overall movement skills can be choppy at times. He appears hesitant to let it lose and really open up his speed. Some of this can be attributed to his long legs which can get a little to get going.

It’s important to note that Key is still physically developing and learning the ins and outs of the position. However, he possesses the raw talent to make an immediate impact in the NFL.

The areas where he needs to improve relate a lot to his strength. He needs to work on added some bulk to his frame and increase his power. The first area where this will help is his ability to deliver a powerful punch.

Key does a good job fighting for inside hands, but just lacks the upper body strength to deliver a jolt. This jolt would help him keep clean and disengage from the blocker. He shows good overall technique including rolling his hips to try and increase his pop.

In the run game, Key shows that he understands the importance of setting the edge but doesn’t consistently meet this goal. He can get too focused on rushing the quarterback which results in him getting up field or looking to shoot the inside gap.

Adding some bulk and strength will help Key become a more complete player. The effort and awareness are in place to help with his development.

Key’s potential as a pass rusher is through the roof. He’s someone with the measurables evaluators look for as well as possessing college production. The only things that can keep him from being an impact player are his strength issues and any off-field concerns.

He is currently staying away from LSU’s football program for personal reasons. Key is expected back in time for the season, but I’m sure NFL teams will be questioning this absence.
