As we approach training camp, there are already several NFL head coaches on the hot seat.
207 days.
That is the number of days left until the NFL season is over. Yes, I am already counting down to the end of the season and we have not even entered training camp yet.
The first Monday after a long NFL season will be upon as very quickly. Teams will either be getting ready for the playoffs or getting ready for the off season.
That Monday in the NFL has become so cloudy for head coaches, that now we refer to that first Monday as “Black Monday”.

Black Monday is the day that most coaches and general managers get fired, due to the team failing to exceed expectations. In today’s NFL, you are expected to win and win now.
Chip Kelly, former coach of the San Francisco 49ers, got dumped after just one year with the team. Rob Chudzinski, former coach of the Cleveland Browns, also got dumped after just one year with the Browns.
After the 2016-2017 season, there were five NFL coaches who got fired, while one other resigned. We could be seeing up to eight after the 2017-2018 season.
Let’s take a look at the eight NFL head coaches who should be feeling the heat on their seat.
Todd Bowles: Let’s face it, with the way the Jets off season went, they are more than likely going to be one of the worst teams. Therefore, that will leave Todd Bowles to have a below average winning percentage after just three years as head coach. With the team rebuilding their roster, it is also time to rebuild the coaching staff as well.

Marvin Lewis: Marvin has been on the hot seat longer than any coach in the NFL. If any season was a make or break season, it is definitely this season for him to win and win now. This team is on the rise after adding John Ross and Joe Mixon in the NFL Draft. That means this coaching staff must rise up as well. They need to lead this team to exceed expectations or it will finally be time to move on.
Chuck Pagano: After being the favorites to win the AFC South last season, the Colts finished at 8-8. This was good enough for them to finish 3rd in the division. That was their second consecutive season finishing with a 50% winning percentage.
A third season finishing .500 or less will be devastating to Chuck Pagano’s future. Especially after Chuck’s first three seasons as head coach were very successful, twice finishing first in the division and once as a Wild Card team.
Bill O’Brien: This Texans team is talented. Very talented! They were the number one overall defense last season without J.J. Watt. They have numerous young, athletic playmakers on the offensive side that starts with De’Andre Hopkins.
Finishing anything less than AFC South Champions will be a disappointment for this team. They are the favorites to win this division for the third consecutive year despite a questioning quarterback position. Unfortunately, the quarterback play will be the deciding factor if Bill O’Brien will or will not be the head coach for the Houston Texans at the start of the 2018-2019 season.

John Fox: Finishing fourth in NFC North division for the second straight year, the Bears will be looking to improve from their 3-13 record. The signing of Mike Glennon and drafting Mitch Trubisky doesn’t solve the quarterback problem. John Fox will pay the price if these two quarterbacks are not successful.

Mike McCarthy: The Green Bay Packers are routinely one of the favorites to win the NFC. So why have they only attended and won one Super Bowl in the Mike McCarthy era? We could see a change if the Packers have another stellar season but fail to reach the Super Bowl.
Hue Jackson: Any coach who has a 1-15 record in his first season will automatically be placed on the hot seat. The Browns were terrible last year, but they did improve this offseason. It should not be hard to improve, as the Browns just need to win one more game than they did last season. However, just one more win will not be enough to save Jackson’s job.
Next: Three breakout candidates on defense
Doug Pederson: The Philadelphia Eagles and rookie quarterback Carson Wentz stormed out of the gate last season, starting off 3-0, and looking like a force to be reckon with in the NFC East. They tumbled after that, with a record of 4-9 to finish the season, ending with a record of 7-9 overall. With Carson Wentz entering his second season at quarterback, the Eagles added better playmakers such as Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, and LaGarette Blount to help Carson’s development and skyrocket this offense to match it’s superior defense. There are high expectations in Philadelphia and if they are failed to be met, Doug will be held responsible.
