The Atlanta Falcons are going to have a tough time getting over their Super Bowl loss, but are hoping a few rookies can help them get back to the big game.

This current Atlanta Falcons roster features more talent and depth than last year’s Super Bowl team. They were able to add some nice pieces in free agency and potential difference makers though the draft.

Takkarist McKinley was the team’s top pick and will be asked to help bolster the pass rush. He’s an explosive athlete who generates his pressure off the edge. McKinley also plays with good strength and a high motor.

He needs to develop more pass rushing moves, but his speed should allow him to contribute immediately. Working across from Vic Beasley will provide McKinley with favorable matchups and ease his transition.

I was a little confused by the Duke Riley pick because the Falcons mainly used a combination of Deion Jones, De’Vondre Campbell and Vic Beasley at linebacker. Riley is in the same build as Jones and Campbell.

He’s a great athlete who relies on his speed to make plays all over the field. It’ll be interesting to see how the Falcons get Jones, Campbell and Riley on the field at the same time.

Sean Harlow is going to get an opportunity to earn a starting job in training camp. He will be among the group battling for the right guard job opened by Chris Chester’s retirement. However, Harlow will go through some major growing pains if thrust into the lineup.

The Falcons got some good cornerback depth with Damontae Kazee. He’s a feisty player who has a knack getting his hands on the football. Atlanta has established starters in place, but injury can always strike.

Overall, the Falcons are mainly counting on McKinley to make a major impact. His pass rushing skills could take Atlanta’s defense to the next level.
