The Houston Texans aggressively attacked the 2017 NFL Draft and are hoping they found their franchise quarterback.

Deshaun Watson was obviously one of the Houston Texans top targets in the 2017 NFL Draft. It’s why the traded a future 1st round pick in order to land his services. He’s the quarterback of the future, but Bill O’Brien isn’t just handing him the job.

There’s an open competition in camp between Watson and Tom Savage, but the reports suggest Watson is making an early push. I have a hard time believing that Watson doesn’t open the season as the starter.

He has the bigger upside and comes with that 1st round pedigree. Savage has been with the team for several years and O’Brien already knows what to expect.

D’Onta Foreman has also been a hot name early in training camp. He’s a big-bodied running back who features surprising quickness. Foreman is a big-time athlete capable of developing into an every-down back.

The Texans have Lamar Miller set as the starter, but he wasn’t overly effective last season. Foreman will at the very least spell Miller early in the season. However, there’s definitely a good chance that Foreman earns a bulk of the carries quickly.

Julie’n Davenport is very raw but has the upside to develop into an effective right tackle or guard. Houston’s offensive line has some depth issues which may force Davenport into action earlier than expected.

The Texans added important depth at linebacker with Zach Cunningham and defensive line with Carlos Watkins. Both players need time to develop but have enough raw talent to step into the starting lineup should injury strike.

Overall, this draft is all about Deshaun Watson. The Texans mortgaged a part of their future to bring him into the mix. It would be a great start if he was able to seize the starting job by the end of training camp.
