NFL Training Camps: New York Jets Rookie Report
By Jon Dove
The New York Jets are counting on several of their 2017 NFL Draft picks to seize starting jobs by the end of training camp.
It’s going to be a tough year for the New York Jets as they just don’t have a ton of talent on the roster. They are a franchise that’s in the beginning stages of the rebuilding process. However, several members of the rookie class should be able to make an immediate impact.
The biggest rookie addition is 1st round pick Jamal Adams. He will be expected to quickly become the leader of the defense. His combination of size and speed give him the ability to be a true difference maker.

Look for the Jets to find ways to get him involved in multiple ways. He features a strong build which helps him support the run. However, he also has excellent instincts which allow him to hold up in coverage.
Adams’ role in the defense might be determined by how quickly fellow first year safety, Marcus Maye, gets up to speed. Maye was the team’s 2nd round pick and someone who plays a physical brand of football.
It would make sense for the Jets to allow Maye to work near the line of scrimmage and Adams as more of a centerfielder.
New York’s offense could see three rookie pass catchers forced into the rotation. A combination of injuries and lack of talent means that ArDarius Stewart, Chad Hansen and Jordan Leggett should be in the mix for snaps.
Stewart and Hansen are deep threat receivers who feature a combination of size and quickness. Leggett is battling Austin Seferian-Jenkins for playing time at tight end. He doesn’t have great athleticism, but knows how to find open holes in the defense.
As the year progresses, the Jets may want to take a look at running back Elijah McGuire. They will start the season feeding the ball to Matt Forte and Bilal Powell, but could shift focus as the losses mount.
