Chiefs at Patriots: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Chiefs at Patriots – The Ugly
The Patriots defense:
537 yards of total offense. That how much the New England Patriots defense gave up to the Kansas City Chiefs. 42 points. That’s the most points a Patriots defense has given up by a Bill Belichick defense during the Belichick era.
The Patriots may have underestimated rookie Kareem Hunt. They had no answers for him against the run or as a receiver. Maybe they didn’t scout him well enough. Many knew Hunt was good in college but no one could have predicted he’d play as well as he did.

The Patriots pass defense was weak as well. There were blown coverages and Alex Smith picked the defense apart. Cornerback Stephone Gilmore was signed to a big time contract but wasn’t on Tyreek Hill much. He was on Chris Conley most of the game.
Against the run the Patriots gave up 185 yards rushing. Kareem Hunt looked good for sure but there were some gaping holes that he was running through. So that’s a testament to the Chiefs offensive line.
There’s no doubt that Bill Belichick will get things turned around but he’ll need to do it quickly. The Patriots have a potent New Orleans Saints offense in week two led by Drew Brees. Just not a performance you’re accustomed to seeing from a New England Patriots defense.
