Minnesota is 2-2 with him in the lineup with the two losses coming against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions. Keenum has protected the football while completing nearly 65% of his passes.
Some of his success has come with Dalvin Cook out of the lineup whose injury shook the team’s confidence. Bradford’s status moving forward is a bit of an unknown which means we could see a lot more of Keenum.
A few more solid performances could earn Keenum some serious money. Every offseason there are plenty of teams looking for a solid veteran quarterback. Keenum is proving himself to be an excellent backup which has a lot of value in this league.
However, he also could get some looks as a starter with teams targeting a bridge quarterback. That contact could potentially come from the Vikings themselves.
Minnesota has a big decision to make in the offseason regarding their future at quarterback. Both Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are pending free agents. The injury history of these two quarterbacks makes signing them to a long-term deal very risky.
It’s possible the Vikings see Keenum as a safer option and look to draft a young quarterback in the upcoming draft.
