Auburn’s Carlton Davis is a bigger cornerback prospect who shows the ability to lock down his target.

Carlton Davis features a big frame which includes solid bulk and long arms. He uses his size to his advantage when in coverage and supporting the run. Davis is a physical defender who will fight for the ball and deliver big hits.

Auburn typically asks Davis to play man coverage where he shows good mirror skills. He is committed to keeping his pads down and a wide base which helps with his change of direction skills. Davis features just enough movement skills to keep in-phase with his target.

He does a good job getting his head around and locating the football. In this these situations, he uses his size to gain position and attack the ball at its highest point. Davis also has the awareness to track tipped passes and get his hands on the pass.

There are times where Davis will be a little too physical with the ball in the air. This puts a lot of judgment in the hands of the referees. Some will see the contact and throw the flag while others will see a defender fighting for the football.

Typically, his style of play would be seen as a defender who has equal right to the ball. It just might be something he needs to adjust when he reaches the next level.

Davis shows enough speed to turn and run with quick receivers, but isn’t often tested without help over the top. This will make his workout numbers at the combine important to his final position on many draft boards.

However, his combination of size and ball skills make him an attractive prospect. The fact that he played against top-level competition in the SEC will also help.
