Their win this past weekend against the New Orleans Saints served as a bit of a statement game. It showed that they can battle against a top team and pull off a close victory. These are the type of games they will need to win in the postseason.
Goff gets most of the attention because of his breakout season, but there are plenty of others players on this roster playing at a high level.
The receiving crops led by Cooper Kupp, Sammy Watkins and the injured Robert Woods have been a pleasant surprise. Toddy Gurley is proving to be a versatile weapon who can be effective as both a runner and pass catcher.
Defensively, Los Angeles continues to get elite performances out of Aaron Donald. Several other players such as Mark Barron Trumaine Johnson also continue to make big plays.
The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for the turnaround. Sean McVay has put together a great offensive game plan while allowing Wade Phillips to do his thing on defense. Phillips’ experience as both a coordinator and head coach has been invaluable.
Finally, Les Snead’s decision to take a chance on a young coach like McVay has really paid off. His forward thinking of pairing McVay with a veteran coach like Phillips has also paid off.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Rams finish the season and if they can make some noise in the postseason.
