Jimmy Garoppolo out duels Mitch Trubisky
By Jon Dove
This weekend’s game featuring the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears was only exciting because it pitted Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Mitch Trubisky.
Both the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears are limping towards the end of the year. Neither team is in the playoff race which makes the rest of the season about developing quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Mitch Trubisky.

Garoppolo made his first start for the 49ers since being traded at the deadline. He had a very solid showing completing 70% of his passes for 293 yards and an interception. Those numbers aren’t eye popping, but we must factor in that he is still learning the offense and isn’t surrounded by a ton of talent.
Trubisky’s performance is very tough to evaluate. Chicago’s play calling and surrounding talent creates a tough situation for the rookie quarterback. This week he only threw 15 passes while completing 12 of them. He did throw a touchdown but only managed 102 yards.
At this point, it’s fair to argue that the Bears coaching staff isn’t doing Trubisky any favors. He’s not getting an opportunity to open it up nor take shots down the field. Chicago is asking him to be a dink and dunk passer.
It’s this questionable game plan that has many in Chicago calling for John Fox to be fired before the season’s end.
Garoppolo played better in this matchup, but it’s still too early to know how what the future holds for these two quarterbacks. This will be a storyline to follow for years to come thanks to the fact that Chicago traded with the 49ers in order to land Trubisky’s services.
