Can Leonard Fournette Stay Healthy for the Playoffs?
By Jon Dove
Leonard Fournette has been an important part of the Jacksonville Jaguars success, but he has also missed some action this year.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the biggest surprises of the season. They have wrapped up a playoff spot thanks to an elite defense, strong running game and a developing Blake Bortles. Leonard Fournette has been a major part of the turnaround and will be needed to prolong this success.

Fournette’s ability to grind out the tough yards while also breaking off long runs has provided direction for the Jaguars offense. However, he has dealt with several injuries this year which has forced him to miss time.
Jacksonville will need a healthy and effective Fournette if they hope to make some noise in the playoffs. Another concern might be the long-term dependability of Fournette.
During his final season at LSU, Fournette missed time with an ankle injury. This year his injuries have included a back problem, quad issues and ankle pain. It’s a wide variety of problems that should be a concern for Jacksonville.
Fournette plays a physical brand of football and takes a lot of hits. This is going to lead to a lot of bumps, bruises and soreness. Jacksonville will need him to find a way to either avoid big hits or fight through the pain.
The Jaguars are obviously more concerned about this season, but those in the front office need to consider the big picture. They can feel great about Fournette’s long-term ability to hold up throughout an entire season.
It wouldn’t be a major surprise to see the Jaguars hang on to someone like T.J. Yeldon or use an upcoming draft pick on another running back.
