ESPN released a very in-depth and interesting article today which discussed the turmoil inside the New England Patriots franchise.

The New England Patriots appear to be on the cusp of major changes is the story published by ESPN is to be believed. This story lays out a scenario where it’s hard to imagine the trio of Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady coexisting for much longer.

However, this group has been able to keep things together through some tough times so it’s possible things get worked out.

The one are where I anticipate changes is with the rest of the coaching staff. Several of the team’s coaches are interviewing for positions with other teams. The biggest names are offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Defensive Coordinator Matt Patricia.

More from With the First Pick

McDaniels has interviews scheduled with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants. Patricia will meet with the Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions. Defensive coach Brian Flores is also interviewing with the Cardinals.

It appears like the momentum is pointing in the direction of both McDaniels and Patricia getting a head coaching job this cycle. They are both scheduling multiple interviews with teams that covet their services.

The timing might be perfect for them to move on if the issues inside the Patriots building are true. A departure of both McDaniels and Patricia would represent a big hit to New England’s stability. It would likely result in several other members of the staff following either to a new location.

Belichick would have his hands full this offseason filling multiple coaching roles. However, he has a long enough track record that he won’t have trouble finding suitable replacements.

The biggest impact will likely come for the franchises that land either McDaniels or Patricia. Both are highly talented coaches that will bring a new sense of direction. It’s also possible that the rest of the league will start to see some cracks forming in the Patriots foundation.
