2018 NFL Draft: Jaleel Scott NFL Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
New Mexico State’s Jaleel Scott is a 2018 NFL Draft wide receiver prospect who features good size for the position.
Jaleel Scott features a long frame with solid overall bulk. His size helps him make plays all over the field including on deep passes. The bulk on his frame gives him the ability to box out defenders and work to the sideline.
Scott flashes high-point ability, but needs to be more consistent in this area. His contested catch skills really show up in the reds zone. Here, he does a good job finding the corner of the end zone and plucking the ball out of the air.
His body control is also a positive skill set. He is able to adjust his frame in order to make some acrobatic catches.

Scott has solid hands, but will let the ball into his frame from time to time. This is something that will improve with more practice and better overall coaching. The key to unlocking his full potential will be getting him to be consistently aggressive in contested situations.
New Mexico State asked Scott to run a versatile route tree. He has experience working the sideline, the deep middle, comeback routes and stretching the field. This experience running a wide variety of routes will help ease his transition into the NFL.
He reminds me of a poor-man’s Julio Jones in how he excels at working the deep middle. This is someone who is really effective working the deep in route.
Scott has solid speed for his size, but isn’t a burner. He is more of a long-strider who uses his long legs to outpace the defender. A lot of his success at the next level will depend on using his size advantage. However, his route-running skills shouldn’t be overlooked and is another way for him to find success.
