UTEP’s Will Hernandez is a 2018 NFL Draft guard prospect who plays with a nasty streak.

Will Hernandez is thick and barrel-chested offensive guard prospect. He backs up his size with excellent raw strength and proper technique. Hernandez is one of the more physical players in the 2018 NFL Draft class and someone who plays with a nasty streak.

In the run game, Hernandez looks to impose his will on the defender. He routinely fires off the ball, rolls his hips and delivers a powerful punch. His arm length and aggressiveness help him gain inside hand placement.

Hernandez features heavy hands that allow him to latch to the defender and control the action. He then uses his strength and legs to create a push off the line of scrimmage.

It’s important to note that Hernandez isn’t just a mauler as he also shows good overall athleticism. He plays with good awareness and does a great job recognizing when to peel off a block. His solid quickness helps him reach the second level and throw blocks on the move.

He is committed to keeping a balanced stance when on the move which helps prevent missed blocks. Hernandez really features a wide-range of blocking skills making him a fit for any scheme.

In pass protection, Hernandez keeps a wide base and his head on a swivel. He does a good job identifying the immediate threat and holding his ground. Hernandez protects the quarterback like he run blocks with a nasty streak.

The one small area of concern is his lateral movement ability. He doesn’t have a quick shuffle which will cause issues when Hernandez is in space. This isn’t a major problem because playing guard will really limit these situations.

Overall, Hernandez is a physical force and someone who will set the tone for an offensive line. He is a plug-and-play prospect who should be a long term starter in the NFL.
