NFL Free Agency: Predicting the Quarterback Carousel
By Jon Dove
The Minnesota Vikings retain both Case Keenum and Teddy Bridgewater
Minnesota has one of the tougher decisions to make this offseason. They need to figure out who is best suited to be their long-term starting quarterback. Case Keenum did a great job this past season, but Teddy Bridgewater also had his moments in the past.
Sam Bradford is also still in the mix, but his injury history means that he is likely moving on. The best case scenario would be for Minnesota to find a way to keep both Keenum and Bridgewater—even if only in the short term.
A possible course of action would be to negotiate a 1-year deal with Bridgewater and use the franchise tag on Keenem.

Bridgewater’s uncertain health means that his status in free agency will be fluid. It’s hard to imagine any franchise throwing him a ton of money. However, the Vikings can make a solid 1-year offer and see how his health progresses.
This would give them to option the following year to let him walk, negotiate a long-term deal or use the franchise tag.
Keenum’s success this past year didn’t seem like a fluke. However, it felt like a quarterback who was put in a position to succeed. The concern is that Minnesota will no longer have Pat Shurmer calling plays which could lead to a regression by Keenum.
Using this year’s franchise tag on Keenum would by the team some time to find out the truth. It would also give the Viking some stability at the position.
