The New York Jets surprised a lot of people this past year which earned Todd Boles and Mike Maccagnan contract extensions.

Despite a strong season, the New York Jets have a lot work to do this offseason. They have plenty of team needs to fill some of which are at important positions. According to spotrac, the Jets should have nearly $80 million to spend in free agency.

They also have 8 2018 NFL Draft picks including the No. 6 overall and two in the 2nd round. New York obviously has a lot of ammo to address the many needs on the roster.

Below are the New York Jets top 3 team needs:

1. Quarterback

A lot of the Jets success last year can be tied to the success of veteran quarterback Josh McCown. He not only played well on the field, but also provided leadership in the locker room. McCown is a free agent and it’s unclear if he’ll be back in New York.

The rest of the Jets’ quarterback room is a complete mess with the disappointing Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. It looks very unlikely that Hackenberg will every see the field for the Jets.

New York could attack this need by either drafting someone with the No. 6 pick or targeting a veteran in free agency. There are already some rumors swirling that the Jets could be in play for Kirk Cousins.

2. Pass Rusher

This past season, the Jets ranked 28th in the NFL with only 28 sacks. New York needs to find someone capable of creating pressure off the edge. They already have solid building blocks at the other levels of the defense. A top-end pass rusher could be the missing piece.

The draft’s top pass rushing prospect is NC State’s Bradley Chubb. However, it’s highly likely that he’s off the board when the Jets are on the clock. They would likely need to orchestrate a trade in order to land his services.

3. Offensive Tackle

No matter who the Jets choose to be their quarterback this year they will need to find ways to protect him. They don’t have a top flight left tackle and have been lucky to get by with mid-priced veterans.

This is an area where the Jets should focus some attention and land a long-term building block along the offensive line.
