NFL Free Agency: Chicago Bears ready for a Spending Spree?
By Jon Dove
The Chicago Bears have a lot of holes to fill and may use the NFL Free Agency period to improve the roster.
It’s going to be a busy offseason for the Chicago Bears who have plenty of holes to fill. They are currently projected to have $51 million in salary cap space. However, there are several other veterans who could be released any day.
This means they have a lot of money to spend and could look to NFL Free Agency to bolster the roster. Below is a list of some potential targets and how they fit:
Andrew Norwell, Guard
Norwell is coming off a strong season with the Carolina Panthers. He is the top guard on the market and would fill a need for the Bears. They recently released Josh Sitton and need someone to take over his spot.
Adding Norwell to the mix would not only strengthen the line, but allow the Bears to keep the other pieces of their offensive line in place. The key player in that equation is center Cody Whitehair.

His versatility means that the Bears have to be at least toying with the ideal of moving Whitehair to guard and adding a center.
Trumaine Johnson, Cornerback
The Bears have a major need for a No. 1 cornerback. Johnson is one of the top corners on the market and would immediately be the team’s top cover man. He is coming off back to back season being slapped with the Franchise Tag so he’ll be looking for a big contract.
Aaron Colvin, Cornerback
Chicago’s needs at the cornerback position won’t be solved by signing Johnson. Colvin was over looked with the Jaguars last year, but was one of the better slot corners in the league. He’ll be looking for a chance to be a full time starter.
Paul Richardson, Wide Receiver
The Bears lack playmakers at the wide receiver position which makes Richardson a great fit. His ability to stretch the field is exactly what the Bears need.
