NFL Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars want to re-sign Allen Robinson

After extending quarterback Blake Bortles, the Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly turning their attention to re-signing wide receiver Allen Robinson.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off of what ranks amongst its most successful seasons. It won its most games since 2007, its first division title since 1999, and reached the AFC Championship Game for just the third time in franchise history.

After signing quarterback Blake Bortles to a contract extension, the Jaguars are now looking to ensure that his favorite target will be back with him.

When Blake Bortles broke out with a strong campaign in 2015, so too did wide receiver Allen Robinson. The former Penn State Nittany Lions star produced 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and a league-best 14 touchdowns.

The past two seasons haven’t been quite as rewarding, but Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that the Jaguars are hoping to re-sign Robinson this offseason.

When healthy, Robinson is one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL—which some believe to be in spite of Bortles.

Robinson’s production declined in 2016, but he still managed to pick up 73 receptions for 883 yards and six touchdowns—all of which ranked No. 1 on the Jaguars. Thus, it isn’t terribly difficult to understand why Jacksonville wants to re-sign its 6’3″ playmaker.

The cause for concern is that Robinson played just one game in 2017 due to the fact he tore the ACL in his left knee during Week 1.

That certainly complicates the process of re-signing the franchise wide receiver, as the injury could potentially impact his athleticism and durability.

Optimism states that Robinson will return to the form he flashed in 2015, when he was ranked as the No. 31 overall player in the NFL by his peers. If Jacksonville signs him to a long-term or lucrative deal, it’ll be banking on him doing exactly that.

There’s no guaranteeing that such will transpire, but Robinson’s work ethic has been commended and his past production has been that of a franchise receiver.
