The Miami Dolphins slapped the franchise tag on Jarvis Landry, but the desire reportedly remains to trade the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The 2018 NFL Draft may be the talk of the football world, but free agency and the trade market continue to loom large. High-profile players could be on the move this offseason, including those who have made multiple Pro Bowl appearances.

Few players have stolen quite as many headlines as Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry, whose offseason has already taken a turn for the tumultuous.

Miami recently franchise tagged Landry, thus preventing the NFL’s reigning leader in receptions from entering free agency. Despite the financial commitment, the Dolphins haven’t yet agreed to bring Landry back for the 2018 season.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins will meet with Landry to discuss his future—and multiple sources believe the discussions will ultimately result in a trade.

Only time will tell what actually transpires, but based on the accuracy of Schefter’s past reports, it’s safe to view this as a reliably sourced revelation.

The Dolphins selected Landry at No. 63 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s played well above the round he was selected in, recording 400 receptions, 4,038 receiving yards, and 22 receiving touchdowns during his four seasons in Miami.

As previously alluded to, Landry led the NFL in receptions during the 2017 regular season, pulling in 112 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns.

Landry is one of the best possession receivers in the league, but Miami is reportedly more inclined to reap the benefits of a potential trade than to further explore his potential.

In a potential trade, it stands to reason that the Dolphins could acquire a first or second-round draft pick. They’re in a position of great leverage, as this thin free agent market for wide receivers has already been stripped of its most appealing option: Landry.

It’s unclear what the Miami Dolphins will actually request in a trade for Landry, but the odds appear to be in favor of a deal transpiring.
