Ohio State’s Tyquan Lewis is a steady performer who should hear his named called in the middle of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Tyquan Lewis was used as a chess piece along Ohio State’s defensive line. His versatility is why plenty of teams will give him a look in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he projects as more of a complementary piece at the next level.

Lewis is a hard worker and doesn’t hesitate to initiate contact. He does a good job fighting for inside hand placement as well as delivering a strong initial punch. His hands also have some quickness which helps him work off blocks.

In the run game, Lewis is able to hold at the point of attack and make plays away from his frame. He has experience working at defensive tackle, but should only fill this role in passing situations. His lack of bulk will keep him on the edges.

He has a good feel for the game and awareness to locate the ball carrier.

Lewis wasn’t counted on to be Ohio State’s top pass rusher. However, he flashed the ability to generate pressure. His quick first step and snap awareness allows him to get a job off the ball. This is an important part of his game because Lewis lacks elite speed.

Overall, he looks like a rotational piece with some upside to develop into a strong contributor. He might lack elite athleticism but shows enough overall skills to generate pressure on the quarterback. His effort and raw strength give him the ability to at least provide strong run defense.

There are plenty of prospects who fit Lewis’ profile that have outperformed their draft position and developed into a difference maker.
