LSU’s D.J. Chark has utilized the 2018 NFL Draft process to help his stock, but may still be flying under the radar.
D.J. Chark had an impressive run at the Senior Bowl and followed that up with excellent numbers at the Scouting Combine. His work in the offseason has helped raise 2018 NFL Draft stock. However, that rise still doesn’t do his talent justice.
Chark was stuck dealing with a terrible quarterback situation while at LSU. There was a revolving door of mediocre passers tied down by questionable play calling.
He also had to deal with the likes of Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice working in the backfield. LSU just put more emphasis on running the football than trusting the passing game. This all resulted in Chark playing in less than ideal situations.
However, that doesn’t mean his NFL career is destine to follow a similar path. Chark has the natural receiving skills and speed needed to be a game breaker.

He was able to overcome those hurdles this past year by posting 40 receptions for 874 yards and 3 touchdowns. These aren’t eye-popping numbers, but when taken in context of his situation are pretty impressive.
Chark’s success at the next level will rely on his ability to improve as a route runner. He already has the speed and ball skills needed to succeed. However, Chark needs to expand his route tree and be a more consistent player.
Even with his limitations he can make an impact as a rookie. Chark’s speed and ability to create in space will give offensive coordinators plenty to work with.
His experience as a return man will also help his ability to contribute right away.
Overall, we should all expect more production from Chark once he gets to work in a better offensive system and with a more talented passer.
