2018 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Tight End
By Jon Dove
There isn’t really a standout tight end prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft, but there are several who have a chance to develop into difference makers.
The tight end position continues to grow into one of the more important positions on the field. This has caused several tight end prospects to hear their names called very early on draft night. The 2018 NFL Draft doesn’t have that type of prospect, but there’s talent available.
Below are my top rated tight end prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft:
1. Dallas Goedert, South Dakota State
Big Board Rank: No. 35
Goedert was slowed during the draft process with an injury which really kept him from moving up draft boards. However, this is an extremely talented individual who can be a difference maker in the passing game.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear his name called much earlier than expected.
2. Mike Gesicki, Penn State
Big Board Rank: No. 46
Gesicki needs to get stronger and improve as a blocker, but he’s getting drafted for his pass catching skills. He is a nightmare in the red zone and a major mismatch. Gesicki could be a double digit touchdown guy early in his career.

3. Troy Fumagalli, Wisconsin
Big Board Rank: No. 80
Fumagalli isn’t going to wow anyone with his speed or athleticism. However, he is a savvy player who knows how to get open. This is more of a throwback tight end, but still someone capable of making an impact.
4. Hayden Hurst, South Carolina
Big Board Rank: No. 96
Hurst has a ton of fans, but don’t count me as one of them. He is a naturally gifted athlete and shows upside. However, his game is very raw and doesn’t offer much as a blocker.
5. Ian Thomas, Indiana
Big Board Rank: No. 115
Ian Thomas is going to have a long and very successful NFL career. He is a versatile player who will get involved as a blocker and contribute in the passing game.
6. Jaylen Samuels, NC State
Big Board Rank: No. 121
7. Mark Andrews, Oklahoma
Big Board Rank: No. 128
8. Ryan Izzo, Florida State
Big Board Rank: No. 135
9. Jordan Atkins, UCF
Big Board Rank: No. 150
10. Will Dissly, Washington
Big Board Rank: No. 155
11. Tyler Conklin, Central Michigan
Big Board Rank: No. 183
