2018 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Cornerback
By Jon Dove
The 2018 NFL Draft cornerback group has some solid talent, but really lacks a star at the top of the draft.
Anyone hoping to find a true No. 1 lock-down cornerback in the 2018 NFL Draft will be disappointed. This year’s group has several talented prospects, but none that jump off the screen as elite.
However, that doesn’t mean that one of these talented players won’t be able to develop over time. The group just comes with a bit more uncertainty than previous years.
Below are my 2018 NFL Draft Cornerback Rankings:
1. Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama
Big Board Rank: No. 4
Fitzpatrick remains more of a cornerback than a safety in my book. He has a natural feel for the position and the instincts to identify developing routes. I love his ball skills which make him a major turnover threat.
2. Jaire Alexander, Louisville
Big Board Rank: No. 13
Alexander is an explosive and aggressive defender who loves to get his hands on the football. The fact he plays with a chip on his shoulder will help him succeed at the next level.
3. Denzel Ward, Ohio State
Big Board Rank: No. 14
Ward’s lack of size and bulk has long kept him lower in my rankings. However, there’s no denying his ability as a cover man. He may never be a true shut-down cornerback, but he will get the job done.

4. Donte Jackson, LSU
Big Board Rank: No. 27
Jackson’s elite top-end speed will help in the NFL, but it shouldn’t overshadow his raw coverage skills.
5. Mike Hughes, UCF
Big Board Rank: No. 31
Hughes is a fighter who is always looking to make a play on the football. When the ball does touch his hands he is a threat to put points on the board.
6. Carlton Davis, Auburn
Big Board Rank: No. 37
7. Darius Phillips, Western Michigan
Big Board Rank: No. 54
8. Quenton Meeks, Stanford
