The Chicago Bears focused most of their offseason attention on putting pieces in place to help Mitch Trubisky succeed.

It was another very busy offseason for the Chicago Bears who made several high-profile moves in free agency. They also used the draft to upgrade the talent on their roster. Most of the moves Chicago made were to help their young quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Things started with the hiring of Matt Nagy as head coach. He is an offensive minded coach who has proven capable of designing unique offensive concepts. The Bears are counting on him and his staff helping Trubisky reach his potential.

Chicago’s next big move was signing Allen Robinson to a big-money contract. His playmaking ability is something the Bears lacked last season. Robinson also brings size and contest catch skills that helps quarterbacks.

Trey Burton was signed to provide a pass catching threat from the tight end position. He showed flashes last year that he is capable of being a matchup problem.

An underrated addition is the speedy Taylor Gabriel who will bring an explosive element to the offense. He is someone who the defense needs to account for because he’s capable of scoring every time he touches the football.

Chicago also utilized the draft to beef up the offensive talent. James Daniels is expected to immediately compete for a starting guard spot. He’s a technically sound player who should be able to open up some good running lanes.

Anthony Miller was one of my favorite players in this draft and has the chops to make an immediate contribution.

He not only has the speed to stretch the field, but also knows how to work the underneath routes. Miller could quickly become one of Trubisky’s favorite targets and provide plenty of big plays for Chicago’s offense.

The Bears worked this offseason to keep most of their defense intact– especially the secondary. They were able to get both Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara under contract.

Chicago’s big defensive move was selecting Roquan Smith at pick No. 8 in the 2018 NFL Draft. Smith will immediately slot in as a starting inside linebacker and be expected to make an impact. He is an athletic linebacker who delivers big hits, can hold up in coverage and sets the tone.

Overall, Ryan Pace did a good job enhancing the talent of the roster. He’s hoping that it will not start to translate to wins.
